Love doesn't always work out the way fairy tales tell us it should in this sweet romance about learning how to move on from a broken heart.
Everything was supposed to be perfect. Alyssa has a job she loves, working as Cinderella at her favorite theme park; a fantastic group of friends; and a boyfriend who will no longer be long–distance. But as the summer progresses, her prince becomes less charming and more distant, and Alyssa's perfect summer falls apart.
Forced to acknowledge that life is not always a fairy tale, Alyssa starts working to pull her herself back together. Fortunately, she doesn't have to do it alone. With her friend Miller's support, she's determined to prove that she's more than just a pretty princess. And with his help, maybe she's finally ready for something better than dreams... Maybe she's ready for something real.
From Karole Cozzo, author of How to Keep Rolling After a Fall and How to Say I Love You Out Loud, comes The Truth About Happily Ever After, a charming, uplifting young adult novel for the princess in all of us.

Gr 9 Up-From the outside, Alyssa's life seems ideal. During the school year, she is part of a lively sorority, and during the summers, she works in her favorite theme park as Cinderella. She has the perfect hair and the perfect smile and her very own Prince Charming, park medic Jake. When the summer starts, Alyssa can't wait to end their long-distance days and rekindle what they had the summer before. But when Jake gets to town, he is distant, and Alyssa notices that something just isn't quite right. As her world crumbles, she isolates herself, shutting out her friends and letting her performance at work slip. Just in the nick of time, her persistent friend Miller steps in, forcing Alyssa to take a better look at herself and discover the person she truly is. While the novel starts off with many heavy-handed, Disney-esque references and frustrating teen speak, Cozzo finds her way near the midpoint, delivering a compelling story with a protagonist readers can't help rooting for. Alyssa's struggles seem genuine, and Miller is an unlikely yet lovable knight in shining armor. VERDICT A good addition for libraries with fans of princesses and fairy tales.-Erica Deb, Matawan Aberdeen Public Library, NJ

Alyssa lives in a fairy-tale world--literally. She loves her summer job as Cinderella at a theme park but is crushed when her boyfriend dumps her. Her friend Miller (also a park character) is there to support her. Alyssa's attempts at personal development sometimes feel unconvincingly facile, but the setting brings originality to this breezy summer romance.
