Grades 3-6 If you're looking to up your origami game, this entry in the Amazing Origami series (4 titles) may do the trick. Its six paper dinos (and one prehistoric tree) are geared toward the advanced beginner or intermediate folder, though an introductory spread quickly runs through the folds used in the book and how they are depicted, typically with arrows and dotted lines. Most of the dinosaurs can be completed in 10 steps or fewer, but the iguanodon requires 16, proving that herbivores can also inspire fear. Each numbered step pairs written instructions with an illustration that will (one hopes) result in the desired dinosaur. In a few instances, the number of arrows and dotted lines contained in a single step is confusing, and crafters may need assistance deciphering exactly what needs to be done. On the whole, though, the steps are clearly described. Kids will get to fold a dimetrodon, allosaurus, ichthyosaur, pterosaur, iguanodon, and plesiosaur, each of which is introduced with a fun fact or two about the featured creature. Best suited for larger collections.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2019, American Library Association.)

In each volume, two somewhat boilerplate double-page spreads give a bit of background to this traditional Japanese craft and list the materials and basic techniques required to complete six or seven projects. Step-by-step illustrated instructions lead to three-dimensional miniature dogs, mice, iguanadons, gift boxes, rockets, boats, and more. Precision required--not for the impatient! Ind.
