As Hatmaker succinctly writes in her introduction, this is a book for eaters. After making a New Year's resolution to learn to cook when her marriage ended, Hatmaker relied on her Food Network heroes and a few good knives to learn to create satisfying and accessible meals to feed her busy family. The recipes are all inviting and the photos throughout are stunning and offer a glimpse of her life (dirty dishes and all!), but what really shines in this book is Hatmaker's humor. Those who know this longtime blogger and author (Simple and Free) know she doesn't have a filter, laughs at herself with ease, and aims to lift people up. She draws parallels between following her instincts in the kitchen and trusting her gut in life. She's adamant that cooking, like life, should be flexible, believing one thrives when one can pivot--in the kitchen and out. VERDICT Cooks of all skill levels can come for the recipes and stay for the laughs and life lessons. This must-have for every cookbook collection is one to savor and enjoy.--Erin Dagenais
